READ SCRIPTURE: DOING THE WILL OF THE FATHER
Matthew 7:21-23
Not everyone who says to me, “Lord, Lord,” will enter the kingdom of heaven,
but only the one who does the will of my Father in heaven.
Many will say to me on that day, “Lord, Lord, did we not prophesy in your name?
Did we not drive out demons in your name?
Did we not do mighty deeds in your name?”
Then I will declare to them solemnly, “I never knew you.
Depart from me, you evildoers.”
REFLECTION: YOUR SECOND VOCATION
God calls each of us to be saints, and this personalized vocation includes a specific calling relevant to our state in life. As a business owner, you are a layperson witnessing to Christ and building His Kingdom in the secular world. By consecrating your company to the Lord, you renew your commitment to this mission, transforming your business into an outpost of Christ’s Kingdom.
The true purpose of your company extends beyond creating value and profit. As a baptized member of Christ’s Kingdom, your work has both temporal and eternal significance. Consecrating your business acknowledges this transcendent purpose, emphasizing the goal of maximizing your Eternal Return on Investment (E-ROI™).
The great English theologian C.S. Lewis once remarked that in life we have two choices: to help others get to heaven or to be an obstacle to them. Every person has eternal value; nobody is actually a “mere mortal.”
All day long we are, in some degree, helping each other to one or other of these destinations [heaven or hell]. It is in the light of these overwhelming possibilities, it is with the awe and the circumspection proper to them, that we should conduct all our dealings with one another, all friendships, all loves, all play, all politics. There are no ordinary people. You have never talked to a mere mortal.
– C.S. Lewis, The Weight of Glory
His Way At Work recognizes that as a business leader, you must have this eternal dimension in mind when making decisions and dealing with employees, customers, and stakeholders. If we recognized the eternal value of a soul, we would never treat another person as a means to our own selfish ends.
Our second vocation calls us to maximize our E-ROI by embodying the two greatest commandments: love God and love your neighbor. By centering your company on God and serving your community, you honor this calling. Your organization becomes a God-centric community where you, as its steward, help fulfill God’s mission in the world.
NOVENA PRAYER
Lord Jesus Christ, I adore you with all my heart. Confiding in your deep, personal love for me, I make this novena in preparation for the consecration of my business to your glory and your service. I ask you to purify my heart and to make the consecration a sincere act of love and devotion that redounds to your glory, now and in the years to come. I humbly ask you to protect my business and all those who are or will be connected with it in any way: the leadership team, the employees, the clients, customers, and all who come into contact with it. Make this business a true source of consolation for you, a channel of your powerful and limitless love, and an instrument that serves to comfort, strengthen, and inspire many, especially those most in need of your mercy.
Trusting in your promise that anything that we ask of the Father in your name shall be granted, I humbly present to you today the following prayer requests:
[State your personal request(s) for your business here].
Do with my business whatever you will. You have given it to me. I return it to you.
To you be glory, praise, and thanksgiving for all eternity!
CONCLUDING PRAYERS
Our Father, who art in heaven, hallowed be thy name; thy kingdom come, thy will be done on earth as it is in heaven. Give us this day our daily bread, and forgive us our trespasses, as we forgive those who trespass against us; and lead us not into temptation, but deliver us from evil. Amen.
Hail, Mary, full of grace, the Lord is with thee. Blessed art thou among women and blessed is the fruit of thy womb, Jesus. Holy Mary, Mother of God, pray for us sinners, now and at the hour of our death. Amen.
Glory be to the Father and to the Son and to the Holy Spirit, as it was in the beginning is now, and ever shall be world without end. Amen.
O Sacred Heart of Jesus, I place all my trust in you.
In the Name of the Father, and of the Son, and of the Holy Spirit. Amen
