READ SCRIPTURE: KEEPING FIRST THINGS FIRST
Matthew 6:25-27;33-34
Therefore I tell you, do not worry about your life, what you will eat [or drink], or about your body, what you will wear.
Is not life more than food and the body more than clothing?
Look at the birds in the sky; they do not sow or reap, they gather nothing into barns, yet your heavenly Father feeds them.
Are not you more important than they?
Can any of you by worrying add a single moment to your lifespan?
But seek first the kingdom [of God] and his righteousness, and all these things will be given you besides.
Do not worry about tomorrow; tomorrow will take care of itself.
Sufficient for a day is its own evil.
REFLECTION: YOUR FIRST VOCATION
God called each of us into existence out of love and for communion with Him. However, original sin has disrupted this plan of God. Today, we are born with a tendency to seek happiness in idols rather than in friendship with Him. Despite this fallen state, God’s mercy offers us a fresh start. He continually calls us back to Him and accompanies us on our journey.
You are specifically called to be a saint. This should be the chief goal of life, after and above every other goal. A famous quote by a Catholic novelist reads:
The only real sadness, the only real failure, the only great tragedy in life, is not to become a saint.
– Leon Bloy, La Femme Pauvre
The deepest desire we have in life is union with God. And this means becoming a saint. We may not always feel it, but this desire is the foundation of all other desires.
The invitation to sainthood is personal; Jesus knows you intimately and chooses you despite your background and challenges. As stated in John 15:15,
It was not you who chose me, but I who chose you.
Every Christian shares in the universal call to holiness. As such, it’s important to clarify what holiness is not.
Being a saint doesn’t require changing your personality or pretending to be someone else. Saints come from diverse backgrounds and temperaments. Instead, it means forming an authentic friendship with Christ and allowing Him to guide your natural strengths for the good of His Kingdom.
Your holiness is important not only for yourself. You do not live in a bubble. Rather, we are connected to others in such a way that our holiness or lack thereof positively or negatively impacts those around us. Truly, the growth in virtue and the life of grace that a consecrated business leader undertakes becomes a channel of grace and blessings to all those in their life: family, friends, colleagues, employees, and customers.
NOVENA PRAYER
Lord Jesus Christ, I adore you with all my heart. Confiding in your deep, personal love for me, I make this novena in preparation for the consecration of my business to your glory and your service. I ask you to purify my heart and to make the consecration a sincere act of love and devotion that redounds to your glory, now and in the years to come. I humbly ask you to protect my business and all those who are or will be connected with it in any way: the leadership team, the employees, the clients, customers, and all who come into contact with it. Make this business a true source of consolation for you, a channel of your powerful and limitless love, and an instrument that serves to comfort, strengthen, and inspire many, especially those most in need of your mercy.
Trusting in your promise that anything that we ask of the Father in your name shall be granted, I humbly present to you today the following prayer requests:
[State your personal request(s) for your business here].
Do with my business whatever you will. You have given it to me. I return it to you.
To you be glory, praise, and thanksgiving for all eternity!
CONCLUDING PRAYERS
Our Father, who art in heaven, hallowed be thy name; thy kingdom come, thy will be done on earth as it is in heaven. Give us this day our daily bread, and forgive us our trespasses, as we forgive those who trespass against us; and lead us not into temptation, but deliver us from evil. Amen.
Hail, Mary, full of grace, the Lord is with thee. Blessed art thou among women and blessed is the fruit of thy womb, Jesus. Holy Mary, Mother of God, pray for us sinners, now and at the hour of our death. Amen.
Glory be to the Father and to the Son and to the Holy Spirit, as it was in the beginning is now, and ever shall be world without end. Amen.
O Sacred Heart of Jesus, I place all my trust in you.
In the Name of the Father, and of the Son, and of the Holy Spirit. Amen
