Well, the Cancun Summit is behind us, and there is only one word to describe it: TREMENDOUS. In our book, The Business Card, we have one chapter titled Be Careful How You Pray. How true! We prayed for God’s blessing on the event, on the attendees, for the event to be well attended, and for God’s wisdom in filling the gaps that we might have overlooked. God was so faithful.
The Cancun Summit was attended by just over 300 representatives from businesses in North, Central, and South America. More than we could have imagined only 30 days prior to the event. Some of the presenters spoke English, some Spanish. The translation service was flawless. The company providing translators and earpieces were fantastic to deal with, and the translators were smooth and so easy to understand. The slide/PowerPoint presentations went off without a hitch (more on that later). I am sure there were “gaps” that we overlooked, but I couldn’t tell you what they were. Everything about the event came off perfectly.
All of this was capped off by the opportunity to stay in the beautiful Gran Caribe Real Resort. Fernando and his wife, Lolita, were the perfect hosts at this marvelous venue. The rooms, food, and everything about the resort was fabulous. The accommodations were exceeded only by the servant spirits of every Gran Caribe employee. It is clear that Fernando live out his faith in the workplace, and that his love and caring is clearly seen through each and every employee.
If you attended the event, I truly hope you took advantage of the trip to City of Joy. This is a “mission” if you will, in the metro center of Cancun, that reaches out to the community in countless ways. The City of Joy has a “blanket closet” to help meet clothing and basic needs, a home for pregnant unwed teens to come and receive care until their child is born. The mothers may then stay on for an indeterminate period to learn to care for their baby, learn a skill, and learn to serve in the City of Joy. They have a facility for caring for the abused, and a tremendous facility for caring for HIV patients. The nuns serving all of these “homes” were tremendous. What an example of the love of Christ. Finally, the City of Joy has a school that currently has 1,050 students from 1st to 12th grade. Upon entering the gates of the City of Joy you are immediately taken with the peacefulness and love contained within the walls. This was a trip that you didn’t want to miss. If you should be visiting Cancun in the future, I strongly recommend that you find a way to visit the City of Joy. It will warm your heart, and set you on fire to serve.
Fernando, the owner of Gran Caribe Real Resorts, has been so kind as to collect and post each of the slide presentations from the conference. Please take advantage of the great site he has set up, and visit www.hiswayatworkcancun.com to download your copy of the slides. We are not sure how long this site will be up, so don’t wait. Additionally, Fernando was kind enough to post a few of the many His Way at Work testimonial videos from our archive. Take a few minutes and see what “real life“ employees have to say about how changes in their workplace have impacted them.
Finally, please take a few minutes and send us your thoughts on the conference through our Facebook page. Just search for His Way at Work, and be sure and friend us while there. One last item, should you know of a business that you believe would benefit from His Way at Work helping them “Transform their workplace”, please drop us a note and let us know. God is doing a great work in the workplace. We are blessed to be a part of it. Thanks for your prayers, for His Way at Work. Keep lifting us up!
